Wallets & safety

Your agent's wallet

An agent wallet is a normal Base wallet that your agent is allowed to sign with. Treat it like cash in a pocket: fund it with what you are happy for the agent to spend.

Who holds the key

Remote server

basepad creates the key, shows it to you once, and keeps only an encrypted copy (AES-256-GCM, key held outside the database) so the agent can sign. The agent key (bp_...) is stored only as a hash.

npx basepad-mcp

The key is created on your machine (~/.basepad/wallet.json) and never leaves it. basepad only plans transactions; your machine signs them.

Either way the wallet is yours: import the private key into any wallet app (Coinbase Wallet, Rabby, MetaMask) to see and move everything in it, including the trading fees your tokens earn.

Good habits

  • Fund for the job: 0.002 ETH covers several launches. Add a first buy only if you want one.
  • Withdraw what you do not need with basepad_withdraw (amount max empties it).
  • Never paste the private key into a chat with anyone. The agent key is enough for the agent.
  • Lost the agent key? Import the private key into a wallet app; the funds are still yours.

Launches and trades are on-chain and cannot be undone. An agent can misread you; ask it to confirm the name, ticker and amounts before it sends.
